Universal’s movie-industry heritage and years of expertise in transforming powerful films into compelling theme park experiences led to the opening of Universal Studios Florida® in 1990. With Steven Spielberg as creative consultant, we became a world renowned movie studio and theme park boasting the most technologically advanced rides, shows, and attractions. Universal Studios Florida® quickly became known as “the place” to Ride The Movies®.
The excitement continued in 1993 when we announced plans for building Universal’s® Islands of Adventure and Universal City Walk®.
In 1999 the Universal Orlando® Resort came to life as we opened Universal CityWalk®, Universal’s Islands of Adventure®, and the first of our three
onsite hotels, The Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando®, a Loews Hotel.
We continued our Resort expansion by offering our guests even more hotel options to create A Vacation From The Ordinary®. The Hard Rock Hotel® at Universal Orlando®, a Loews hotel opened in 2001 and The Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando®, a Loews hotel, opened in 2002.
Continuing with a history of bringing immersive experiences to our guests, in 2007 we announced The Wizarding World of Harry Potter to open in 2010. The “theme park within a theme park” will become part of the experience at Universal’s Islands of Adventure® and will provide fans with a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience the magical world of Harry Potter.
Now with the power of GE and NBC Universal behind us, we are as committed as ever to building the most spectacular movie and TV-based attractions anywhere.
